How might UW undergraduate students achieve better networking and access to information from alumni so that they can pursue their academic/career goals successfully?
Many platforms make it harder for students to connect with one another and find a mentor. This can make it difficult for students to gain the insights and information needed to pursue their academic/career goals successfully.
iConnect is targeted toward University of Washington undergraduate students, alumni, and program leaderships
Our team developed this project with two user groups in mind: UW Undergraduate Students and UW Alumni. In addition to market research, we gathered information through surveys and user interviews. This informed the direction of our project and the core features of our application.
After developing our prototype, we performed user testing to gain insights. We learned that students need a way to build a strong professional network with alumni and to gain insider perspectives that will help them explore different academic and career options. Using their feedback, we iterated our designs to improve the application.
We conducted multiple rounds of user testing to validate our concepts and test the functionality of the application.
From our initial user research, we found that there weren’t many students and alumni engagements and many didn’t know how to connect with each other.
Our second round of user testing showed us that nearly all our students and alumni want to connect with one another to provide help and receive insights.
iConnect provides a platform for our users to be able to connect with one another depending on what each individual is looking for. We’re excited to provide this opportunity for our campus to connect and grow with one another.
This project will be transitioned to open source effective June 30, 2023.
